Should Obama Return His Nobel Peace Prize?
One Israeli politician is demanding former President Barack Obama return his Nobel Peace Prize in the wake of a bombshell report that his administration allegedly let Hezbollah off the hook to protect his controversial Iran deal.
“Obama must return his Nobel Peace Prize,” Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid said, according to The Jerusalem Post. “Israel warned repeatedly that there can be no connection between the nuclear deal and anti-terror activity, certainly against Hezbollah. … We also warned of this specifically, because of the proven link between Hezbollah and Iran.”
According to the stunning Politico report, which was first published Sunday but has earned little news coverage, the Obama White House undermined a Drug Enforcement Administration initiative — “Project Cassandra” — that tracked Hezbollah’s trafficking of drugs and weapons, money laundering, and other criminal activities.
David Asher, a former illicit finance analyst for the Department of Defense, alleged that the Obama administration “serially ripped apart this entire effort that was very well supported and resourced, and it was done from the top down.”
Israel’s Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi also chimed in on the report. He said it’s not surprising, given Obama’s efforts to legitimize Iran “at any price.”
“Up until the Obama administration, every American president fought terrorism uncompromisingly,” Hanegbi said. “I am convinced that the Trump administration will not turn from that tradition, and that the outrageous and mistaken policy that was revealed this week will not be repeated.”
